Notenspur (Music Trail) day and Chamber music festival "Con spirito"

For the first time, from 11th to 18th September 2021 the Leipzig Chamber Music Festival con spirito will take place, at which the audience experiences music in the places where it was created. These authentic places of work are linked by the Leipzig music trail and were honored with the European cultural heritage seal in 2018. The festival focuses on composers who have decisively shaped Leipzig's musical tradition - Bach, Mendelssohn, the Schumanns, Wagner, Grieg.

In order to draw attention to the chamber music festival and to get in the mood, the Notenspur-Verein is organizing a Notenspur Day on September 11th, during which music is played, there is dancing and children and adults alike can go looking for clues with the mascot Toni. It will be a day - in keeping with the guiding principle of the Leipziger Notenspur: “We give music space in our city and make it tangible in the city”.

In the Messehof Passage, the Ensemble Camarata Bachiensis will perform works by Rosenmüller, Bach and Telemann, played on period instruments.
The wonderful Passagenhalle of the Hildebrand & Partner Haus forms the backdrop for the wind quartet Atenea. The four young musicians play works from the Baroque and Romantic periods, including Bach, Kuhlau and Mendelssohn.

We ask our audience to adhere to the hygiene rules both at the concerts and when dancing. If a minimum distance of 1.5 m between two people cannot be maintained, we ask you to wear a mouth and nose cover.

Quote from Con-spirito-Homepage: "About us"

The sound of Leipzig, which has always been a city of music, will be dominated by renowned stars of international chamber music. The first edition of Leipzig’s chamber music festival Con spirito 2021 adds yet another highlight to the cultural calendar of Saxony’s cultural metropolis. The audience can enjoy music at the authentic places where it was created, undertaking a journey to the European Cultural Heritage sites, the salons and workplaces of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Johann Sebastian Bach, Edvard Grieg, Richard Wagner as well as Clara and Robert Schumann. The concert series focuses on composers who had a decisive influence on Leipzig’s music tradition.

Con spirito breathes the spirit of Leipzig – a city whose creativity is reflected in a wealth of cultural institutions unparalleled throughout the world. Consider the founding of the Thomanerchor, the Choir of St. Thomas, Johann Sebastian Bach’s work in the city and the development of the first concert orchestra supported by middle-class society; over the course of the 19th century Leipzig developed into one of the most important cultural metropolises in Europe. The authentic places which allowed Leipzig to grow into a world-class city of music were awarded the European Cultural Heritage Label in 2018.

Leipzig’s musical heritage sites include nine outstanding institutions devoted to music history and the musical present: the churches Thomaskirche and Nikolaikirche, the Nikolai School, the Bach Archive, the Mendelssohn Haus, the Academy of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy”, the Schumann-Haus, the C. F. Peters Music Publishing House with the Grieg Memorial Site and Leipzig’s Gewandhaus. These locations are united by a music trail known as the “Leipziger Notenspur” and the chamber music festival Con spirito.
